ABOUT Maurice

Mr. Goodman serves as the Executive Director of a San Francisco based non-profit start-up that provides educational, career, and life coaching support to criminal justice-involved and at-risk youth, and as a member of the Board of Trustees for the San Mateo County Community College District, where he also served as president in 2019 and introduced voting equity policy, and championed food insecurity solutions within our community as well as securing funds for Free Community College for all.

Prior to his career in educational leadership and youth development, he worked as a legal paraprofessional and received degrees in Paralegal Studies, Criminal Justice, and Early Childhood Education, attending both Skyline College and CSU East Bay.

He was elected to two terms of office on the South San Francisco Unified School District Board of Trustees and twice served as president.

Mr. Goodman’s volunteer experience includes work with the local American Red Cross, where he served in a volunteer leadership role during the San Bruno pipeline explosion and was deployed during Hurricane Katrina, South San Francisco Host Lions Club, Boys & Girls Clubs of North San Mateo County, Design Tech High School Board, and the NAACP of San Mateo County.

As one of a few countywide elected African Americans in San Mateo County, Mr. Goodman is keenly aware of being in the movement and not the moment... he has unapologetically spoken truth to power and continues to dismantle and disrupt systems of oppression in education and beyond.

In 2020 he was named as one of the Bay Area’s Talented 25 and received the San Mateo NAACP Excellence in Education Award.

His legacy in San Mateo County will be his approach to addressing progressive policies and the many challenges our communities face but more importantly those that affect people of color, LGBTQ, the disabled, and those from low social-economic backgrounds with a nuanced approach that builds consensus and community.
